Once and for All - Mike Tyson vs Michael Spinks (1hr) (1988)
This was the fight in which Tyson, three days short of his 22nd birthday, Spinks was less than a month from his 32 birthday and had campaigned the vast majority of his professional career as a light heavyweight, produced what is widely regarded as the most dominant performance of his career. Many experts agree that Tyson would have been a match for any heavyweight in history on this night. - Spinks, who didn't hold a belt but was regarded as the linear champion after twice beating Larry Holmes, had a perfect 31-0 record. Tyson had won 34 bouts in a row, with 30 KOs, including seven world title wins in 16 months. - The fight, at the Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, attracted enormous worldwide interest and was billed "Once and for all", meaning the winner would be recognised beyond dispute as the real heavyweight champion. - Tyson came out in his usual aggressive style, immediately putting Spinks on the back foot. With just over a minute gone, Tyson dropped Spinks with a right hand to the body - the second time for the former light-heavyweight champion had been down in his career (first time was against Dwight Muhammad Qawi in 1983). - Spinks got up but was caught with another big right, this time on the chin, and counted out after one minute 31 seconds of the first round. - Tyson earned a record USD 22 million for the fight, the biggest purse ever paid to a boxer at that time. TITLE SHOT - Tony Curtis (Drama) (96min) (1979)
Weak dialogue and a muddy plot undermine this crime drama about the Mafia's attempt to not only fix a championship fight, but to have the defending champion killed off in the ring. Frank Renzetti (Tony Curtis) is the ring owner who contacts the Mafia with this idea and Blake (Richard Gabourie) is his nemesis. Blake is a violent, mean cop who is rather misogynist but at least he hates the bad guys. The problem is that for the viewers as well as Blake, it is very difficult to tell who the bad guys are. THE BATTLING BUTLER - Buster Keaton (Comedy/Silent) (71min) (1926)
Battling Butler has to be the strangest of Buster Keaton's silent features. Based on the musical comedy of the same name, the film casts Keaton as wimpy millionaire Alfred Butler, who goes on a vacation in the mountains in the company of his faithful valet (Snitz Edwards). While communing with nature, Alfred falls in love with a beautiful young girl (Sally O'Neil), who barely acknowledges his existence. Without his master's knowledge, the valet tries to smooth the path of romance by telling the girl that Alfred is, in reality, boxing champion Battling Butler (Francis McDonald). (AMG)

THE JOE LOUIS STORY - Coley Wallace (Drama) (88min) (1953)
Real life heavyweight COLEY WALLACE plays the title role in The Joe Louis Story. Told in flashback, the film recounts the pugilistic career of "the Brown Bomber" from the early 1930s to his misguided comeback attempt opposite Rocky Marciano in 1951. The film's high point is Louis' defeat of Germany's Max Schmeling; its low point (dramatically, not quality-wise) is the breakup of Louis's marriage.(AMG) RUBY GOLDSTEIN. Muhammad Ali Cup - Louisville, Kentucky (2hr) (9/1997)
Muhammad Ali Cup, International Amateur Boxing Challenge in Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville, Ky., welcomed home its most beloved son to kick off an international amateur boxing tournament that bears his name. Slowly, Muhammad Ali rose, smiled and rang the ringside bell three times to signal the opening of the inaugural Muhammad Ali Cup International Amateur Boxing Challenge at the Commonwealth Convention Center. Members of the 21 countries represented in the event marched into the arena bearing the flags of their home nations. The event is expected to raise more than $1 million for a planned Ali museum and education center in Louisville and several USA Boxing youth programs. It will also help determine members of the United States team that will compete at the world championships in Budapest next month. Nearly 100 boxers from more than 20 nations are to compete in the tournament, including the United States team's top-ranked boxers in 11 of 12 weight classes. The exception is the lightweight class, where the top-ranked boxer did not participate in the training camp. The week was capped by a star-studded tribute to amateur boxing, featuring the first appearance of Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield together since their June fight in which Tyson was disqualified for twice biting Holyfield on the ear.(NYT)
