Documentary showing why boxing in Cuba is so brilliant. An undiscovered world, between strength and tenderness, hopeful children and fascinating big old champions like Teofilo Stevenson and Felix Savon. The new cult-film about Cuba.
Boxing in Cuba is a national sport. Their athletes have for decades dominated the international arenas. There are hundreds of boxing schools on the Island. Children start to box at the early age of 8 and often it becomes their destiny. They train with car tires strapped to the ceiling with cables, their hands protected by rags in tatters. They have nothing, no boxing gloves, no real heavy bags, only the training in those ancient gyms. The adolescents spend their lives in boxing schools like monks in Buddhist monasteries.
Its center is the deep and touching relationship between trainers, often fascinating old champions, and the young athletes. It’s a world that has never been documented before. English and Spanish with some sub titles. Austria documentary, color.
